This is a song I wrote for my mom who was diagnosed with melanoma stage 4 cancer in July 2011 and passed away on March 18, 2012. This song is about her life with my dad, whom she met when they were 12 years old. I put together this video to celebrate her life and all she had done in her short time here.
When she was diagnosed in July 2011, I was blessed to have the opportunity to spend meaningful time with my mom and write Savannah Heat. For Christmas 2011, with the help of my friend, I recorded the song and gave it to her packaged in a CD for her. I also played it for her personally on my acoustic. It was very emotional. The cover photo is actually a painting she did while in high school which has hanged in my parent’s house since I was a kid.
On Mother’s Day 2012 I presented to her this video. She passed away 5 days later. I am happy that I was able to complete this video for her to see before she left us. I still miss her today, but her saying “How bad can it get? Worse case, sell everything and sell hot dogs on the beach doesn’t sound too bad” forever will be a part of me especially as from time to time life is a struggle.
